Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The perfumed, floral and elegant 2024 L’Altet de Torró from Rafa Cambra is Monastrell from the plot that names the wine, a 28-year-old vineyard on white marls soils. It fermented in two small 1,000-liter stainless steel vats with 100% full clusters and had 14 days of maceration at 30 to 31 degrees Celsius and matured in used 500-liter barrels for 10 months. It's a beautiful expression of a limestone (well, marl) soils. This is the first year he made a Monastrell with 100% full clusters, and he's surprised by the absence of bitter notes the stems can sometimes add. The stems here were completely green, but the wine has no herbal notes either. This is a great debut for a very elegant expression of Monastrell with a crunchy part. 1,300 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2025.

Description
Rafael Cambra stems from a very specific vision of the inland Mediterranean: wines with depth, yet without heaviness; wines that reflect the true character of the landscape, yet without artifice. Rafael Cambra L'Altet De Torró comes from a specific plot of Monastrell in Fontanars dels Alforins, organically farmed and rain-fed on white marl. Here, the variety does not seek exuberance or power, but rather a more precise, airier expression, more closely linked to the soil. There is also a bold decision behind this wine: to vinify it using 100% whole bunches, a risky move with Monastrell, but one that Rafael Cambra turns into a source of freshness, tension and finesse. In this high-altitude area of the D.O. Valencia, characterised by its elevation, continental influence and limestone and marl soils, the grape takes on a more restrained, more vertical and less warm profile than usual.
Production
The grapes for Rafael Cambra L'Altet De Torró come from a 28-year-old vineyard and are vinified with indigenous yeasts in two small 1,000-litre open stainless steel tanks. Fermentation is carried out using 100% whole bunches, followed by a 14-day maceration at 30–31°C and gentle pumping over. The wine is then aged for 10 months in used 500-litre barrels, a format that refines the wine without imparting excessive oak. The result is a wine designed to preserve the purity of the fruit, the texture of the whole bunches and the chalky character of the plot.
Taste
On the nose, Rafael Cambra L'Altet De Torró surprises with its fragrant, floral and delicate profile. Notes of violets, dried flowers, pomegranate, crisp cherryand a hint of blood orange emerge, all wrapped in a stony, fresh and very elegant sensation. On the palate, it is not a dense or warm Monastrell, but rather taut, juicy and linear. The whole bunch brings energy and depth, but without any greenness or bitterness. Fresh red fruit blends with a chalky, dry and precise texture, leaving a long, salty, spicy and very clean finish. A distinctive Monastrell: restrained, vibrant and deeply mineral.
