The NV 20 Year Old Tawny Port was bottled in 2016 with a bar-top cork and 132 grams per liter of residual sugar. Gloriously fresh and completely alive, this adds an extra layer of depth and concentration of flavor to the 10 Year Old, of course, but that's not the main attraction here. This has all of Noval's typical grace and elegance while the complexity level is nicely above average. Then, its bright demeanor makes its fruit lifted and drives the medley of flavors home. It persists nicely, becoming something to contemplate as well as enjoy. This is a bit on the pricey side for a 20, at least judging from the list price, but it was also one of my favorites here. I don't want to be a broken record, but remember that aged tawnies should be drunk a bit cool. This was brilliant around 58-60 degrees Fahrenheit, boring around 72.

Description
Quinta do Noval Old Tawny 20 years is made from a selection of indigenous varieties including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinto Cão, Sousón and Tinta Roriz . Each of these varieties brings unique characteristics to the wine, creating a unique aromatic and taste profile.
Winemaking
The vinification of this tawny is carried out following traditional methods that have been handed down from generation to generation. The grapes are trodden by foot and fermented in the traditional presses of the Quinta, thus guaranteeing the best extraction of their compounds. But what really distinguishes this wine is its maturation process. Quinta do Noval Old Tawny 20 is a blend of wines from different vintages that have matured in oak barrels, reaching an average age of 20 years. This long ageing process in wood gives the wine a complexity and depth of flavours that make it unique.
Taste
The wine has a characteristic Old Tawny port colour with golden glints. Its elegant bouquet evokes notes of dried fruits and almonds, giving it an original and distinctive character. On tasting, there is an elegant smoothness and high concentration that bodes well for a delightful and wonderfully long finish.
