Bénard’s 2019 Blanc de Noirs Vendange, disgorged in October 2024 with a dosage of one gram per liter, is sourced exclusively from the lower-lying sections of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ with minimal topsoil—merely 20 centimeters of clay-limestone over chalk. Crafted from a Pinot Noir parcel (comprising 85% of the blend) alongside a smaller Pinot Meunier plot, the southeast exposure encourages high ripeness even in cooler vintages. The wine reveals aromatics of pear, macadamia nut, honeysuckle and orange zest with a discreetly high-toned edge. Vinified almost entirely in tank, a choice Bénard attributes to a desire to preserve freshness, it is medium- to full-bodied, fleshy and textural, with ripe yet vibrant acidity, a pinpoint mousse and an expansive finish.
