Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
I was quite impressed when I put my nose in the glass of the 2023 Lalume, their white from Ribeiro. 2023 was far from easy there, and they had to do a lot of selection, sorting and discarding. But the hard work seems to have paid off, and the wine is delicate, expressive, intense and clean, with complexity, mixing notes of white and yellow fruit, herbs and flowers. It was produced with a blend of 88% Treixadura, 6% Albariño, 5% Godello and the rest Caíño Branco, Torrontés and Loureira. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in different materials and sizes; stainless steel, concrete eggs and large barrels and foudres, where the wine matured with fine lees and without going through malolactic fermentation, the blend finishing in large 12,000-liter stainless steel vats. It's round and fresh, with contained ripeness, 13.1% alcohol, a pH of 3.3 and 5.9 grams of acidity, coming through as balanced. It's elegant, pure and focused like never before. 44,084 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2024.

Description
Lalume is a white wine that stands out for its originality within the Dominio do Bibei winery's portfolio. From the Ribeiro DO, this wine is made mainly from Treixadura grapes (98%), complemented with a small percentage of Albariño (2%), two of the emblematic varieties of this appellation. The grapes for Lalume are carefully selected from vineyards located in the Avia, Arnoia and Miño valleys, aged between 12 and 30 years old, in sábrego soils and under an Atlantic climate.
Winemaking
Lalume is vinified by destemming prior to pressing, fermenting spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in a variety of vessels including 600 litre barrels, 1,200 and 2,400 litre foudres, 700 litre ovoid concrete tanks and 2,000 litre stainless steel tanks, without malolactic fermentation. The ageing is carried out in a first phase in wood of different capacities and in a last phase in stainless steel tanks of greater capacity (12,000 litres) in contact with the fine lees, which gives the wine its characteristic freshness and unctuousness.
Taste
Lalume is a dry wine, with a good acidity that gives it freshness. It is creamy and unctuous on the palate, with a medium body and ripe fruit notes. It stands out for its long finish and good persistence, which makes it an exceptional white wine for ageing and very representative of the Ribeiro DO. Its aromatic complexity includes ripe white and stone fruit, lees, spices, flowers and a background of aromatic herbs, making it rich and highly appreciated among connoisseurs.
