From the moment I first put my nose in the glass, I loved the precision, seriousness and nuance of the pure Xarel.lo 2021 Betzinera. This comes from one of the Gramona family vineyards that is worked organically and biodynamically (despite the fact that the bottle doesn't carry any certifications). The juice from the direct pressing fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and matured in used 500-liter barrels for nine months. It's complete and expressive, with depth and impressive balance, with good ripeness and moderate alcohol (12.6%) and with good freshness, a pH of 3.08 and very good acidity. This is by far the more complete of the whites I tasted from them. 2,666 bottles were filled in June 2022.

Description

The white wine L'Enclòs de Peralba Betzinera is an authentic and refined expression of the terroir of Penedés, a Catalan wine region located less than 50 km from Barcelona. This white wine is made exclusively with the indigenous Xarel-lo grape variety from a plot of old vines on clay soil. The uniqueness of this wine is enhanced by its focus on organic practices and biodynamic treatments, although there are no official certifications on the bottle.

Winemaking

The elaboration of L'Enclòs de Peralba Betzinera involves a meticulous process of manual harvesting, followed by vinification that includes the addition of stems. The fermentation of the must is carried out spontaneously, using indigenous yeasts. This approach brings out the purity and character of the Xarel-lo grape, reflecting the soul of the Penedés region. The wine matures in used 500-litre barrels for nine months, which contributes to its complexity and balance.

Taste

L'Enclòs de Peralba Betzinera stands out for its aromatic profile, with notes of white fruit, citric touches and herbal hints. In the mouth, it is a light, fresh and balanced wine. It is pleasant on the palate, marked by a remarkable acidity and a fresh, round finish. This wine, with an alcohol content of 12.5%, is ideal for pairing with dishes such as risottos, white fish, appetizers and sushi, making it a perfect choice for lovers of white wines with character and freshness.
