Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Made with Carricante and Grecanico Dorato, the Frank Cornelissen 2022 Munjebel Bianco opens to an off-gold color and aromas of sun-dried apricot, Sicilian candied fruit and yellow rose. Fruit is sourced from the volcanic soils of Calderara, Crasa and Picciolo. It reveals chalky sensations with hints of grippy white wine tannins over a medium-lean finish. This is an 18,000-bottle release.

Description
Frank Cornelissen Munjebel Bianco is a winemaking expression that began as an orange wine, fermented on skins over an extended period. However, over time, the purity and flavours of Etna were sought, leading to a short period of skin contact and prolonged ageing in the cooler part of the cellar before bottling. This technique has resulted in a wine with elegance, purity and density, making it suitable to accompany a wide variety of dishes, from fish to white meats.
The wine comes from the Etna region, specifically from the northern valley, in the municipalities of Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia. The vineyards are located in the areas of Calderara, Crasà and Picciolo, with a northern exposure. The varieties used for this wine are Grecanico Dorato and Carricante, both in equal proportions of 50%. The vines have an average age of more than 30 years.
Winemaking
After destemming and light crushing of the grapes, fermentation is carried out with skin maceration using only indigenous yeasts for approximately 3 days. Ageing is carried out in neutral epoxy tanks ranging from 1,500 litres to 4,500 litres for about 16 months. No fining is carried out and the wine is filtered before bottling with 0.8 micron PP cartridges. Depending on the quality of the grapes and the stability of the wine, the sulphur values can vary between 15 and 50 mg/l.
Taste
Frank Cornelissen Munjebel Bianco is an authentic expression of the volcanic essence of the region. It is a natural wine with a golden-orange colour. It evokes hints of cider, with aromas of ripe apple, mineral and citrus notes that intertwine in an intense symphony. On the palate, it is lively and savoury, with saline notes complemented by good drying acidity, leaving a mineral, savoury and lingering aftertaste. It is the perfect accompaniment to creamy cheeses.
