Description
Emrich-Schönleber Mineral Riesling is a wine that, as its name suggests, stands out for its mineral character. Produced in the VDP Nahe wine region, specifically in the town of Monzingen, this wine is made from Riesling grapes harvested from two different vineyards: Frühlingsplätzchen and Halenberg. It is precisely from the Halenberg vineyard, characterised by its marked mineral touch of slate and quartzite, that this particular wine takes its name.
Winemaking
The soil in which this Riesling grows is marked by the presence of blauem Schiefer(blue slate) and quartzite(quartzite), characteristic of Halenberg. These geological characteristics give the wine markedly herbaceous and mineral notes, accompanied by delicate fruit. The result is a wine with character, intriguing and at the same time light and agile.
After the grapes are selected and harvested by hand, they are fermented at a controlled temperature. Vinification is carried out in stainless steel tanks, which helps to preserve the natural characteristics of the grapes.
Taste
The colour of Emrich-Schönleber Mineral Riesling is a bright light yellow. On the nose, it reveals hints of white currants, oranges and grapefruit, complemented by fruity and balsamic tones. On the palate, it is wonderfully dry, yet not harsh or cutting, but round and smooth. Its lively acidity gives it a remarkable freshness and vivacity on the palate. With time, this wine shows its best side, revealing a medium intensity and leaving a frank and honest impression. It is a wine that, due to its marked acidity, could benefit from further ageing.
It is ideal with roast trout with ginger pear, omelette with salmon and fennel or baked sweet potatoes with feta cheese. Best served at a temperature between 11°C and 13°C.
