Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Based on the 2016 vintage and disgorged in July 2020 with only one gram per liter dosage, the latest rendition of Egly's NV Brut Premier Cru Les Vignes de Vrigny is showing very nicely, offering up inviting aromas of peach, apricot, buttery pastry, crisp orchard fruit and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and generous, it's textural and charming, with an ample core of fruit, lively acids and a pinpoint mousse.

Description
Egly-Ouriet Les Vignes de Vrigny 1er Cru is an exceptional champagne that stands out for its uniqueness and quality. This wine is a product of the prestigious region of Champagne, France, specifically the Montagne de Reims. What makes it unique is its composition: it is made entirely from Pinot Meunier grapes, a rare variety for a champagne. These grapes come from old vineyards, which gives the wine a distinctive character.
Winemaking
The winemaking of this champagne follows traditional methods, but with a focus on purity and expression of terroir. The grapes are harvested from a plot of approximately 2 hectares, with vines that are 50 years old. This champagne spends 41 months in contact with the lees, which contributes to its complexity and texture. It is also characterised by a very low dosage (1 g/l), which highlights its natural and authentic profile.
Taste
Egly-Ouriet Les Vignes de Vrigny 1er Cru is a true masterpiece. It has an amber colour, reminiscent of a ripe Riesling or Sauternes, with orange and caramel nuances. Its bouquet is complex and evocative, with notes of toasted almonds, black walnuts, candied citrus fruits such as grapefruit and pineapple, along with yellow peach and apple.
On the palate, this champagne is powerful and captivating, with pronounced minerality and a saline touch. Flavours of fresh bread crust and candied orange are perceived, all complemented by a fine and elegant perlage. This is not a champagne to be sipped without reflection; on the contrary, it invites to be enjoyed with attention and is ideal to accompany meals.
