Description
In the heart of the Loire Atlantique, where the ocean breeze caresses soils of gneiss and decomposed granite, Domaine de L'Ecu Janus is born, a wine that embodies the purest philosophy of biodynamic viticulture and absolute respect for the terroir. The winery, a pioneer in organic practices since the 1970s, conceives this Chardonnay as a declaration of principles: minimum intervention, maximum expression of the soil.
The idea of making this cuvée came about as a bold bid to reinterpret the Chardonnay of the Loire Valley from a radically mineral point of view. In a region historically associated with other white varieties, to opt for a Chardonnay without make-up, without dominant wood and without oenological artifice was almost a manifesto. Here, the vineyard is worked by hand, with controlled yields and a deep commitment to natural balance.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, with a strict selection of bunches. The grapes enter the winery by gravity to preserve their integrity. At Domaine de l'Ecú Janus, fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, without aggressive fining, allowing the wine to retain its full identity. Ageing lasts between 9 and 12 months in concrete tanks, a neutral material that enhances the texture and keeps the natural tension of the wine intact. There are no severe filtrations or corrective interventions: Domaine de L'Ecú Janus is a natural Loire wine that is committed to authenticity.
Taste
Domaine de l'Ecú Janus has a marked minerality, with notes of wet stone, Atlantic salinity and fresh lemon zest. This is not an exuberant Chardonnay; it is precise and restrained. With aeration, nuances of green apple and a subtle hint of iodine appear, evoking the proximity of the ocean.
On the palate, Domaine de L'Ecu Janus shows vibrant, linear acidity, with a firm, energetic texture. The sensation is straight, almost electric, supported by a crystalline purity. The finish is long, saline and refreshing, leaving citrus and stony echoes that invite further drinking. Domaine de L'Ecu Janus is a mineral and biodynamic Chardonnay designed for those seeking character, tension and authentic expression of the terroir.
