Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Based on the 2015 vintage and complemented, as usual, by some 30% reserve wines from a solera of demi-muids dating back to 1986, this bottle of the NV Brut Reflet d'Antan saw tirage in 2017, followed by disgorgment in December 2019 with 0.6 grams per liter dosage. Mingling aromas of toasted nuts and candied peel with hints of honeycomb and fresh mint, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and incisive, with tangy acids and a long, sapid finish.

Features

Description

Reflet d'Antan, made by Bérêche & Fils, this champagne is an authentic and surprising representation of the terroirs in Ludes, Ormes, Mareuil-le-Port and Festigny. The grapes that give life to this exquisite concoction come from these regions, being a combination of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier. In terms of percentages, it is composed of 30% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 35% Meunier.

Winemaking

Each year, two thirds of the best barrels are selected, a tradition that has been a perpetual reserve for three generations. Fermentation takes time, carried out in oak barrels and small concrete tanks. Subsequently, the champagne is aged on the lees, and the sparkling wine is made with a natural cork stopper. This meticulous process culminates in 36 months of ageing in the cellar in rhyme. With a final dosage of 6 g/L, this champagne is a true oenological masterpiece.

Taste

Reflet d'Antan is a champagne that dazzles on the palate. With a deep and complex bouquet, it offers notes of citrus oil, warm pastry, peach, apple peel, fenugreek and spices. On the palate, it is fleshy and layered, rich and generous, with a concentrated core of fruit backed by vibrant acids, culminating in a long, saline finish. It is a refined champagne, with a less oxidative profile than previous versions of Reflet d'Antan. It also stands out for its intense minerality, chalk and salty flavour, being a model of total precision. It is undoubtedly the archetype of a beautiful perpetual reserve, where the reserve wines bring a soft and complex patina to the blend.
