Description
Barranco Oscuro Palomo Negro is a red wine from La Contraviesa, in the region of Granada, Spain. This wine is made from Palomino Negro grapes (also known as Listán Negro), a rare variety outside the Canary Islands. The grapes are grown in vineyards located at altitudes between 1280 and 1368 metres above sea level, on lean, stony soils of schist and clay.
Winemaking
The production of Barranco Oscuro Palomo Negro is completely organic, without the use of chemical products. Fermentation takes place spontaneously in stainless steel tanks, followed by maceration with whole bunches. The wine is aged for almost a year in used European oak barrels, without fining and with a light filtration before bottling. Production is very limited, with only 600 bottles.
Taste
Barranco Oscuro Palomo Negro is distinguished by its fresh and vibrant flavour. It has notes of bright red fruits, such as raspberry and young cherry, with a hint of jam. The influence of the oak manifests itself in light vanilla nuances and a full body, supported by long, well-integrated tannins. On the palate, it is an easy-drinking wine, with a freshness reminiscent of a good Gamay or Pinot Noir, albeit with a subtle earthy and vegetal note. This wine stands out for its purity and precision, being an excellent example of natural winemaking without additives or SO2, which gives it an authenticity that is hard to find.
