Description
Astrales is a sublime wine, created by the winery of the same name, a project committed to oenological excellence and located in the heart of the Ribera del Duero, in the municipality of Anguix (Burgos). This wine is made exclusively from Tinto Fino grapes from old vines grown on dry land, which provides an exceptional concentration of flavours and an unmistakable typicity. The privileged location of these vineyards and their clay-limestone soils with boulders allow the vines to develop great resistance and a unique character.
Winemaking
The Astrales winemaking process reflects an absolute dedication to detail and respect for tradition. The grapes are harvested by rigorous manual selection and transferred by gravity to tanks of between 50 and 100 hl, where fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, ensuring the purest expression of the terroir. Maceration and fermentation last approximately 15 days, followed by malolactic fermentation in tank. Subsequently, the wine is aged for 18 months in barrels, mostly of fine-grained French oak, which gives it a remarkable elegance and complexity.
Taste
The first encounter with Astrales envelops us with an intense nose dominated by aromas of black fruits such as blackberry and plum, which intertwine with spicy notes of pepper and soft vanilla. The presence of balsamic nuances, reminiscent of scrubland, and subtle toasted notes reveal its meticulous barrel ageing.
On the palate, it unfolds with a full-bodied and well-structured body. The entry is powerful, but quickly mellows to offer an extraordinary balance. The firm, silky tannins provide an enveloping texture and promise a favourable evolution in the bottle, giving the wine a long ageing potential. The finish is long and intense, leaving an aftertaste of stewed fruit, light smoky notes and a lingering echo of liquorice, reminding us of its complexity and ageing potential.
