Description
Antonio Madeira A Palheira isa blend resulting from the cultivation of two of Antonio Madeira's best plots. One of these plots is a 60 year old vineyard 60% dominated by the Baga variety, and the other is a 100 year old vineyard located on a mountainside with a great variation of granitic soils. The varieties that make up this wine include Jaen, Tinta Amarela, Marufo, Tinta Pinheira, among others.
Winemaking
The different plots have been vinified and aged separately. Fermentation was carried out with indigenous yeasts in open tanks, seeking the minimum extraction and the maximum elegance of the terroir. The temperature was controlled with ice packs and with the night-time cold of the mountains. Subsequently, malolactic fermentation was carried out in used French oak barrels. The wine was aged for 18 months in the same 500 and 225 litre French oak barrels.
Taste
On the nose, A Palheira presents notes of granite wrapped in fruit, and with aeration, elegant floral notes and sensations of aromatic herbs and pine trees appear. On the palate, it stands out for its great depth, freshness and flavour, with very fine tannins. The aftertaste is of granite, reflecting the palpable minerality of the wine, perfectly balanced with its flavoursome and fresh mouthfeel.
