Description
Altura Rossetto di Sangiovese is a rosé wine that comes from the island of Giglio, in the region of Tuscany, Italy. This wine is made at the Altura winery and is notable for being produced from the Sangiovese grape variety. The vines, which are around 20 years old, are rooted in sandy soils on a 4 hectare plot near the sea.
Winemaking
After manual harvesting, the Sangiovese grapes macerate with their skins for the first 48 hours in stainless steel tanks. Then, the tanks are bled and spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts starts in 500 and 1,000 litre steel tanks at cellar temperature. Finally, the wine rests for a few months in the same tanks before bottling.
Taste
Altura Rossetto is a rosé wine made from Sangiovese, but its colour is more like a red wine, similar to Pinot Noir. In its aromatic profile, one can identify notes of Mediterranean scrubland, essences of small juicy red fruits and savoury airs. These characteristics are interwoven in a straightforward structure with a very drinkable sip, toned by a Mediterranean freshness and with returns reminiscent of the sea.
