The sample of the 2021 Les Terrasses Velles Vinyes was truly impressive, a blend of 70% Garnacha and 30% Cariñena. It's a lively and vibrant Priorat with lower alcohol and higher acidity and more freshness, pointing at a great vintage in the making. This could very well be the finest vintage of Terrasses, a wine that Álvaro Palacios defined as a year of concentration and class. The wine is clean and pure, with great precision. It matured in barrel and cask for the past seven months, and the wine will continue its élevage for one more year. They expect to fill some 110,000 bottles and 2,000 magnums around May 2023.

Description
Les Terrasses is a crianza red wine made from Grenache, Carignan, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon by Álvaro Palacios under the D.O.Q. Priorat in Gratallops, Catalonia. Priorat in Gratallops, Catalonia.
It is a wine produced with grapes coming from old vines that are from 62 to 92 years old on average and born in 8 different villages of the Catalan Priorat.
These vineyards were planted on predominantly siliceous slate soils located at an altitude of 300 and 600 metres above sea level and organically farmed, which produces grapes of impressive quality.
Winemaking
The grapes are hand-picked at optimum ripeness. When the bunches arrive at the winery, they are destemmed and gently crushed to start alcoholic fermentation in concrete and wooden vats, with indigenous yeasts and regular de-stemming.
The resulting wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in vats and wooden barrels and is aged for 12 months in new, 2nd and 3rd year French oak barrels.
Taste
Les Terrasses stands out for its high aromatic and gustatory intensity, mineral touches and balsamic notes. It is a fresh, round and pleasant wine, with a very long and fluid passage, which surprises for its right level of acidity and ripe tannins.

Les Terrasses is the red wine of the renowned winemaker Álvaro Palacios that is a faithful reflection of the steep slopes of the Priorat and the character of the grapes from the old vineyards from which it is made, as well as having a great capacity for ageing. A magnificent wine!
