Description
Ridge Estate Chardonnay is a white wine that combines tradition, technique and terroir, offering a unique sensory experience for wine lovers. Its richness, elegance and complexity make it a perfect choice for special occasions or to enjoy on a quiet evening.
Produced by Ridge Vineyards, a winery with a rich history of making Chardonnay. This particular wine comes from 100% Chardonnay grapes, harvested from the Monte Bello vineyard located in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Winemaking
The grapes, harvested by hand in the Monte Bello vineyard, are whole bunch pressed and fermented in barrels. A natural alcoholic fermentation takes place, followed by malolactic fermentation, also natural. This fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts and the malolactic fermentation takes place thanks to the bacteria naturally present.
The wine is aged in oak barrels, 80% of which are made of air-dried American oak and 20% French oak. Of these French barrels, 15% are new, 20% are one year old, 40% are three years old and 25% are five years old. This wine benefits from fourteen months of ageing in barrels, which gives it a unique complexity and character.
During its production, a minimum amount of sulphur is used. Before bottling, the wine is plate filtered. Following the winery's philosophy of minimal intervention, these are the only actions carried out in the production of this exquisite Chardonnay wine.
Taste
Ridge Estate Chardonnay has a golden straw colour with notes of citrus, vanilla and apple on the nose. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with pear flavours, good minerality, a touch of honey and a long, clean finish. Critics have praised its intensity and complexity, noting flavours ranging from peach and pineapple to hints of salted caramel and butter. There are also hints of white flowers and apple on the finish, with a light touch of beeswax and nutmeg that lingers.
