Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
All the 2023s showed really well, and the 2023 Carralcoba Albariño was no exception. It was produced with Albariño from the plot that gives the wine its name in the village of Castrelo, planted with ungrafted 78-year-old vines. It vinified and matured in a 1,200-liter chestnut foudre for eight months and has contained ripeness, and the 12.5% alcohol shows it. It has a clean, nuanced and expressive nose, quite different from the Castiñeiro, more serious and austere, and a balanced and harmonious palate with vibrant acidity and bright flavors, finishing long and dry. 2,100 bottles produced.

Description
In the Atlantic heart of Galicia, where the vineyards feel the salty sea breeze and the soils speak with the voice of decomposed granite, Eulogio Pomares Carralcoba Albariño is born. This wine is part of the "Vinos Parcelarios" of the renowned winemaker Eulogio Pomares, a series of singular elaborations that reflect the pure identity of the vineyard. Carralcoba, the plot where this wine comes from, is located in Castrelo (Cambados), within the D.O. Rías Baixas, in an area very close to the mouth of the Umia river. With granitic xabre soils and old vines over 70 years old -planted by layering, not grafted-, the plot transmits a primitive, untouched energy, which translates directly into the character of the wine.
Winemaking
Eulogio Pomares Carralcoba Albariño ferments spontaneously in a single chestnut wood tank, without temperature control, maintaining a philosophy of minimum intervention. Malolactic fermentation is not carried out, which preserves the wine's vibrant freshness and electric acidity. Subsequently, it remains for about 8 months on its fine lees in the same Castaño foudres until bottling. This method of vinification gives the wine a creamy texture, without losing its characteristic tension.
Taste
From the first contact, Eulogio Pomares Carralcoba Albariño is reserved, almost ascetic. The nose displays notes of tense citrus fruits -lime, grapefruit-, green apple skin and a saline and mineral background, marked by the granitic soil and the proximity to the sea. The palate is linear, incisive, with cutting acidity and firm structure. It does not seek to please with exuberant fruit, but to challenge the palate with its purity, verticality and salinity. The finish is long, with hints of candied lemon, wet chalk and fresh herbs, and a restrained elegance that makes it unforgettable.
Eulogio Pomares Carralcoba Albariño is not a complacent wine. It is a declaration of principles, a radical interpretation of Galician Albariño, which takes the expression of terroir to the limit. Ideal for curious palates and lovers of wines with soul, it is also a perfect companion for raw seafood, grilled fish and Atlantic gastronomy.
