Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Compared to the 2022, the 2023 Grand Village Blanc is more fruity and dense, evoking aromas of lemon oil, verbena, kumquat and confit citrus. Broad but tensile, it’s medium-bodied with a fleshy core of fruit and a delicately phenolic frame that segues into a chalky, saline and bright finish. This blend of 80% Sauvignon and 20% Sémillon is simply stunning.

Description
High on the right bank of Bordeaux, where the mosaic of red clay and limestone moulds the character of the most sincere wines, Château Grand Village Blanc is born. This estate, managed discreetly but with a deep devotion to excellence, is home to the Guinaudeau family, famous for their legendary Château Lafleur in Pomerol. However, Château Grand Village Blanc does not live in its shadow: it is, in itself, a declaration of intent, a laboratory of ideas and a tribute to the Bordeaux terroir.
To make a white wine in Bordeaux has been, from the very beginning, an almost heretical act. But it was that very desire to break the mould that motivated Jacques and Sylvie Guinaudeau to plant white varieties - SauvignonBlanc and a small proportion of Sémillon -on the cooler, breezier slopes of their Mouillac estate. There, where the deep chalky soil breathes freshness and tension, they discovered an ideal microclimate to give life to a white that would defy the Bordeaux canons. Years of experimentation, massal selection of their best Lafleur vines and a dogged pursuit of purity resulted in this wine, which today is synonymous with precision, elegance and depth.
Winemaking
Château Grand Village Blanc is harvested by hand, with an almost obsessive meticulousness, seeking the exact phenolic ripeness and avoiding any hint of over-ripeness. Once in the cellar, the grapes are gently pressed and the must is cold decanted to preserve its aromatic clarity. Fermentation takes place in foudres and French oak barrels, of different uses, at controlled temperatures, without the addition of commercial yeasts.
Château Grand Village Blanc is aged on fine lees for 8 to 9 months, with moderate bâtonnage, allowing the wine to gain texture and complexity without losing its edge. Bottling is carried out without aggressive filtration, preserving all its energy and varietal precision.
Taste
The first taste of Château Grand Village Blanc is a lesson in restraint and depth. On the nose, it emerges with discreet nobility: notes of white grapefruit, redcurrant leaf, acacia blossom and a faint trace of wet stone. Over time, nuances of fresh almond, wild fennel and a saline breeze recalling the chalky influence of the soil emerge.
The palate is linear and vibrant. The acidity, perfectly integrated, supports a graceful body but with sapid density. The palate is pure, with a creamy texture that never gives way to excess, and a long finish, marked by salinity, citrus tension and a mineral echo that lingers like a whisper between pebbles.
An ideal companion for raw fish, fine seafood or Japanese-inspired dishes, where subtlety becomes a virtue.
