The 2016 Barbaresco Pajè is a wine of lean weight and meaningful dimension. It's the kind of wine that unveils itself slowly with each swirl of the glass and requires ample time to open and ultimately age. At this young stage, it shows fine berry aromas with rose, lavender bud and rosemary sprig. There are some hints of elegant smoke and crushed stone at the back.

Description
Roagna Barbaresco Pajé comes from the prestigious region of Piedmont in Italy, specifically from the Barbaresco appellation. This red wine is made exclusively from the Nebbiolo grape variety. The Pajé plot in Barbaresco is the largest in Roagna, although it covers only 1.83 hectares. The soil of Pajé is particularly rich in calcareous marl with a high content of active limestone.
The viticulture on this plot is meticulous. The vines used for this wine range in age from 25 to 50 years old. The younger vines are used for the Langhe Rosso, while the older ones are used for the Pajé Vecchie Viti bottling.
Winemaking
Alcoholic fermentation lasts ten days in large wooden casks, using a ciba foot made from the vineyard's own indigenous yeasts. Subsequently, the submerged cap technique is used, which can last between 60 and 70 days. The wine is then aged for 5 years in neutral toasted oak casks.
Taste
Roagna Barbaresco Pajé is a wine that stands out for its transparency and fruit quality. It has a charming and elegant character, with well-defined aromas of forest berries, iris root, liquorice and a subtle hint of white pepper. On the palate, it is characterised by extremely fine tannins. In addition, this wine shows a captivating combination of sweet red fruits, cinnamon, blood orange, leather, cedar and tobacco. Despite its medium-weight structure, the wine develops beautifully with a little time in the glass, showing its natural fullness and creaminess.
