Description
La Hormiga de Antídoto is a creation of Bodegas Antídoto, located in the eastern part of Ribera del Duero, in the province of Soria. The project is led by Bertrand Sourdais, a winemaker with extensive experience who has managed to capture the essence of this particular wine region.
La Hormiga de Antídoto is made exclusively from Tinto Fino (or Tempranillo) grapes from pre-phylloxera vineyards planted in 1922. These vineyards are located in Pago La Hormiga and El Hoyo, at an altitude of 950 metres above sea level, which ensures freshness and good acidity in the grapes. The total area of the vineyard is 1.58 hectares. The soils are a combination of red clay on the surface, which gives structure and concentration to the wine, with a subsoil of calcareous rock, which contributes to the minerality and freshness of the wine.
Winemaking
The harvest of La Hormiga de Antídoto is completely manual, ensuring that only the best grapes are selected. This harvest takes place in early October, allowing the grapes to reach optimum ripeness without losing their natural freshness.
The vinification process begins with a fermentation that takes place over 18 days in stainless steel tanks. The fermentation is slow, which favours a gentle extraction of tannins and allows the wine's aromatic profile to be preserved. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 16 months in 225-litre French oak barrels, 30% of which are new. This new barrel ageing technique brings spicy notes and additional complexity without dominating the fruity aromas of the wine.
Taste
Hormiga de Antídoto has an intense cherry colour. On the nose, it offers a high aromatic expressiveness, with a predominance of ripe red fruits and subtle vegetal hints. On the palate, it stands out for its velvety texture and balanced structure, with round tannins and a long, persistent finish. It is a wine that combines elegance with power, showing a refined and fresh character.
It is ideal for drinking at a serving temperature of 16ºC, and pairs perfectly with red meats, stews and game dishes.
