Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2018 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is performing very well, wafting from the glass with a deep-pitched bouquet of cassis, wild berries, incense, rich soil tones and woodsmoke. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and broad-shouldered, with a deep and layered core, rich structuring tannins and ripe but succulent acids. Long and sapid, this is another excellent Clos Vougeot from Faiveley, and this cuvée seems to go from strength to strength every year.

Description
Faiveley Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, one of Domaine Faiveley's most iconic wines, captures the purest essence of Burgundy's terroir. This winery, with a history deeply rooted in the region, manages three parcels in the prestigious Clos de Vougeot vineyard, including one close to the château, which brings a distinguished and authentic character. The vines, some planted since 1940, benefit from deep, loamy soils that retain moisture, favouring the development of the wine even in dry years.
Winemaking
The winemaking process for Faiveley Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru begins with a manual harvest and careful selection of the grapes. Partial destemming is carried out and fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats and wood, at controlled temperatures, to extract colour and tannins in a balanced way. Maceration lasts for weeks, with gentle pumping over and punching down to integrate aromas and phenolic components.
The wine is aged for 12 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with a percentage of new barrels, providing notes of vanilla and spices without overpowering the fruity flavours. Ageing takes place in underground cellars to ensure slow, harmonious ageing, allowing the wine to develop complexity and depth over time.
Taste
Flavour is synonymous with experience in Faiveley Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru. On the nose, a complex aromatic combination unfolds, where floral notes such as rose and violet intertwine with fruity hints and subtle woody nuances. On the palate, it offers a smooth, velvety entry that soon gives way to a robust structure with marked, generous tannins. It is full-bodied with a lingering, full finish that evokes the depth of Burgundy's terroir, accompanied by an acidity that refreshes and balances the power of the drink. This wine is a sensory journey that evolves over time, revealing new layers of flavour and complexity with each sip.
In short, Faiveley's Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is more than a wine; it is a showcase of dedication to the land and tradition, a delight for the Pinot Noir lover seeking a genuine and memorable experience.
