Winemaking
Fermented in oak with destemmed grapes and skin soaking for 12 days. Malolactic fermentation and ageing for 12 months in French oak barrels.
Description
Cuentaviñas Tinto Fino, a deeply personal interpretation by Eduardo Eguren, winemaker who inherited both the knowledge and the intuition of a legendary winemaking lineage, was born in the heart of the Ribera del Duero, between Pedrosa de Duero, Roa, Anguix and Quintanamanvirgo. His project, intimate and challenging, is based on a clear idea: to rescue the essence of Tinto Fino through old goblet-trained vines -planted between 1936 and 1958- cultivated with care and traditional ploughing on horseback. No irrigation, no make-up. Just soil, vines and time. There are 3.5 hectares on alluvial soils of gravel, loamy sand and clay subsoils that give structure and tension to the wine. At an altitude of more than 820 metres, the extreme climate sets a slow and honest pace: harsh winters, short summers, large temperature fluctuations. Purity as a principle. Courage as a path.
Winemaking
Each bunch destined for Cuentaviñas Tinto Fino is doubly selected by hand, before and after destemming. Fermentation takes place spontaneously in open French oak vats of 3,000 litres, with manual punching down to extract fine tannins and balance. Maceration lasts about 20 days, before passing through a gentle vertical press. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation is delayed until May or June of the following year, allowing the wine to slowly and naturally refine its structure. Cuentaviñas Tinto Fino is then aged for 12 months in neutral 500-litre foudres and a further 8 months in concrete tanks. Unfiltered. Without fining. Only refined by the calm.
Taste
In the glass, the Cuentaviñas Tinto Fino is a deep ruby red, reflecting its nobility and altitude. The nose is precise and restrained: purple flowers, black cherry, cassis, dried leaves and a faint trace of sweet spices. There is tension between the ripe fruit and the austerity of the surroundings, as if the wine were speaking softly but firmly. On the palate, it displays medium to full body with polished, juicy tannins, athletic structure and vibrant acidity that elegantly supports the whole. The flavours lean towards black fruit, damp earth, a touch of bitter cocoa and liquorice. The finish is long, dry, with an almost mineral salinity that is a signature of its provenance.
A true Tinto Fino, without artifice. Austere, tasty, authentic. For those who seek liquid truth.
