The orange-label collaboration between Equipo Navazos and Colet from Penedès is the 2021 Colet Navazos Brut Nature, the one produced with Xarello grapes that have been aged 30 months in bottle in contact with the lees and with an oxidative Sherry touch (Amontillado and Palo Cortado) at disgorging. These are already the 15th edition of the joint venture, and this particular one has the advantage and spark of 2021, fresh and lively, with the subtle Sherry touch. It's bone dry and serious. 2,500 bottles produced. It was disgorged in September 2024.

Description
Colet Navazos Brut Nature was born from the crossing of two obsessions: the meticulous precision of Sergi Colet in the heart of Penedès, and the passion for Andalusia wines of the unclassifiable Equipo Navazos. This unlikely but brilliant alliance came about in 2007, when both decided to create a sparkling wine that would not imitate Champagne, but would speak with a Mediterranean accent and a Jerez soul. Since then, this collaboration has been an exercise in coherence, risk-taking and fidelity to the character of the terroir. The wine we know today as Colet Navazos Brut Nature represents the evolution of that project: no make-up, no residual sugar, and no concessions.
The vineyard sits on the chalky soils of the Alt Penedès, with a temperate Mediterranean climate that allows the grapes to ripen in a balanced way. The absolute protagonist is the Xarel.lo, a native variety that expresses here its most austere, mineral and structured side. But what really distinguishes this sparkling wine is the subtle intervention of the south: fortified wines (usually Palos Cortados or old Amontillados) that are incorporated in minimal doses during the expedition liqueur. An unusual gesture, which adds depth without stealing the limelight from the base wine.
Elaboration
Colet Navazos Brut Nature is made using the traditional method (champenoise), with a second fermentation in the bottle that transforms the base wine into a sparkling wine of great purity and tension. The selection is rigorous: only the most structured and age-worthy batches are used for this cuvée. After tirage, the wine rests for 30 months in rhyme, slowly refining on its lees. No sugar is added to the liqueur d'expedition - hence "Brut Nature" - but a drop of sherry is added, which lends aromatic complexity and personality.
Flavour
On the nose, Colet Navazos Brut Nature is sober and elegant: green apple, lemon peel, raw almond and a slightly saline background. As it opens up, notes of dried fruits and fine yeast emerge, with a distant echo of a veil of flowers that betrays its Andalusian roots. On the palate, it is dry, incisive, with fine, perfectly integrated bubbles. The Xarel.lo sets the tone with its firm structure, mineral tension and an acidity that lengthens the wine with precision. On the finish, there is a whisper of walnut and salt. A wine of slow conversation, of demanding table, and of intentional rarity.
