Buy Wine from Bodegas Puiggròs
The Puiggròs family has been linked to the world of wine since 1843, having produced wines from their own vineyards in the Odena region of Catalonia for family and close friends.
Since 2008, with great effort, they have recovered the vineyards and refurbished the farmhouse to make a small winery called Bodegas Puiggròs.
Today, the Puiggròs winery has proven that it makes wine with personality and quality in the northeast of Spain, and it does so in a unique way.
Its history
Bodegas Puiggròs began in 2008, when the current winery was created with the aim of recovering the vineyards planted with native varieties on the estates of their ancestors.
The story really begins when Josep and Vincens Puiggròs found abandoned vines dating back to 1900 on the estates of their great-grandparents and grandparents.
Originally and because of these vines, Bodegas Puiggròs was born, whose main interest is to produce unique wines from native varieties by recovering vines forgotten in time and with the idea of offering high quality wines that are elegant, distinguished and reflect the characteristics of the terroir.
In 2008, the owners renovated the farmhouse and created a small winery to produce high quality, elegant and distinguished wines.
Location of the winery
The winery is located in Ódena, Anoia, 650 metres above sea level, in a clay-limestone terrain about 50 km from Barcelona.
Vineyards
The vineyards located mainly in Òdena at an altitude of 450 and 650 metres, have a peculiar climate, oriented by the surrounding climates: the Mediterranean and the Continental.
The composition of the soils is naturally clayey and limestone with gypsum in the subsoil, presenting different physical and chemical variations which make this a land with its own personality.
The varieties grown are: Sumoll, Garnatxa Blanca, Garnatxa Negra and Carignan. All the plots are vinified independently and by variety, with ageing in French oak barrels.
Philosophy of the winery
The main philosophy of the winery is based on the "terroir" and on maintaining and recovering native Catalan varieties and vines in order to make wines that reflect the expression of the land where their grapes are grown.
For this reason, the entire process is meticulously followed, from the winemaking process to the production of the wine. In each vineyard, the winemaking process is tailor-made and by variety. The same applies to the ageing of the wine, which depends on the grape variety and takes between 12 and 18 months.
