Buy Wine from Bérêche Fils
Located in the heart of the prestigious Champagne wine region, in the commune of Ludes, the Bérêche Père et Fils winery is a living testimony to tradition and innovation. Founded in 1847 by a Hungarian emigrant, this winery has seen generations pass through the generations who have brought their knowledge and passion to the art of winemaking.
A little bit of history
The history of Bérêche is one of perseverance and vision. From its humble beginnings, when a Hungarian emigrant decided to settle in the Champagne region, the winery has evolved and grown. Today, it is run by the fifth generation, Vincent and Raphaël, who, with the help of a dedicated team and the unwavering support of their parents, have taken Bérêche to new heights.
Originally, the Bérêche family supplied grapes to the renowned Maison Canard Duchêne. However, in the 1920s, Albert Bérêche, with an innovative vision, began to produce his own wine. What started as a brut de Champagne, transformed with time and experience. It was Pierre Bérêche, Albert's grandson, who took the bold decision to completely disassociate himself from Maison Canard Duchêne, opting to produce, bottle and market in his own Domaine, thus marking a new chapter in the history of Bérêche.
Vineyards
Terroir is essential to any wine, and Bérêche is no exception. From a modest beginning of 3 hectares, the estate has experienced steady growth, and now extends over 10 hectares in the heart of Champagne. These vineyards benefit from limestone and clay-limestone soils, which are ideal for the grape varieties grown in the region.
Champagne, with its oceanic climate influenced by continental currents, offers climatic conditions that are simply perfect for the production of world-renowned sparkling wines. The distinct seasons, with cold winters and moderate summers, together with the unique soil characteristics, contribute to the complexity and elegance of Bérêche wines.
Philosophy
Bérêche's philosophy is a fusion of respect for tradition and a desire to innovate. In 2003, in a bold and visionary move, Jean-Pierre and Catherine Bérêche decided to abandon the use of herbicides, paving the way for a transition to organic farming. This decision reflected not only their commitment to sustainability, but also their belief in producing wines that are true reflections of their terroir.
Bérêche's commitment to organic agriculture goes beyond simple practices. It is a philosophy that permeates every aspect of their production. Meticulous attention to the care of the vines and the soil has led the winery to be one of the few to obtain Haute Valeur Environnementale level 3 certification. This certification is a testament to its dedication to sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices.
Techniques used
Winemaking at Bérêche is a carefully orchestrated process that combines traditional techniques with modern innovations. Slow, spontaneous fermentation, followed by ageing on the lees, seeks to extract and preserve every nuance and characteristic of the wine. The result is a wine that is not only a pleasure for the palate, but also a reflection of the place it comes from.
At Bérêche, they firmly believe in a close relationship with their vineyards. Each vineyard, each vine, is treated with the utmost care and respect. This symbiotic relationship between man and nature is the essence of their philosophy. Each wine is seen as an expression of the terroir, and the aim is for each bottle to tell the story of the great terroirs of Champagne.
More than just a winery
Bérêche Père et Fil is a story of passion, dedication and love for the art of winemaking. Through generations, the Bérêche family has carried on a tradition, while innovating and evolving to produce wines that are truly exceptional. In every bottle of Bérêche, one can taste the essence of Champagne and the dedication of those who made it possible.
