Description
In the heart of Ribeauvillé, where the Alsatian hills are tinged with golden light at sunset, the Trimbach family has been making wines with an almost monastic devotion for almost four centuries. True to their philosophy of purity, precision and expression of terroir, Trimbach Alsace Pinot Noir Réserve represents a determined bid to showcase the red soul of Alsace, a traditionally white region. Pierre Trimbach, a key figure in this evolution, dared to vinify this varietal with an unusual seriousness for his time, convinced thatAlsace Pinot Noir could achieve finesse without losing its identity.
Trimbach Alsace Pinot Noir Réserve is made from grapes from vines over 40 years old, grown in Rodern and Saint-Hippolyte, in southern Alsace, on a diverse matrix of soils: granite, sandstone, marl and limestone. This geological complexity, combined with the semi-continental climate - sunny days, cool nights - allows for a slow maturation that preserves freshness and develops a subtle but profound aromatic expression.
Winemaking
The vinification of Trimbach Alsace Pinot Noir Réserve aims for balance and transparency. The grapes, selected at their optimum point, are destemmed and undergo a cold maceration of eight days, extracting colour and fruit without aggressiveness. Fermentation and malolactic fermentation take place in stainless steel tanks and old neutral barrels. Unlike the house whites, this Pinot Noir does undergo malolactic fermentation, adding roundness. The wine is bottled after three months, without prolonged ageing on lees, in order to preserve its natural freshness.
Taste
On the nose, Trimbach Alsace Pinot Noir Réserve reveals a discreet elegance: black cherries, redcurrants, kirsch and a subtle earthy, almost shady background, like dried leaves on damp soil. There are also faded floral notes and a faint smokiness that evokes distant chimneys. The palate is fluid, with fine tannins, crisp acidity and a juicy character. Tart red fruit intertwines with hints of mild spice and a fresh, slightly mineral finish. A delicate red with a precise structure and an athletic spirit that confirms that Alsace, when it wants to, also knows how to speak red.
