There's more rusticity, earthiness and notions of iron in the 2021 Rojo y Negro. It's pure Giró, which is the Alicante strain of Garnacha grown on red soils that give wines more structure (the white soils give more finesse) and tend to be rougher. This is more civilized than previous vintages, when I found animal notes; this is cleaner, with 13.5% alcohol, a medium-bodied palate and some dusty tannins. It matured in Italian 500-liter oak barrels for 15 months. 1,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2023.
