The 2022 Reina de los Deseos has a very delicate and ethereal nose that surprised me and transcends the character of the year. It's very young, but it opens up in the glass with a lifted nose with notes of blood orange and hibiscus. It doesn't show any heat of ripeness despite the 15% alcohol on the label and comes through as elegant and balanced, with very fine, chalky tannins. It's the finest of the 2022s. 997 bottles were filled in February 2024.

Description
Reina de Los Deseos is an exceptional wine that encapsulates the essence of the Madrid region. This wine, a single varietal Garnacha, is made from carefully selected grapes from vineyards located at an impressive altitude of 950 metres. The Garnacha grape, known for its versatility and richness, makes up 100% of this wine, giving it a distinctive character and unique identity.
Winemaking
Reina de Los Deseos is made with a minimally interventionist approach, respecting the nature and authentic expression of the grape. The grapes are vinified without destemming, using spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and at gentle, controlled temperatures. This meticulous process ensures the preservation of the natural flavours and aromas of the Garnacha.
The ageing of this wine is equally remarkable. Reina de Los Deseos spends 14 months in French oak barrels, followed by 6 months in bottle. This ageing period contributes to the complexity and depth of the wine, allowing the flavours to integrate and mature harmoniously.
Taste
Reina de Los Deseos is a real gem. It presents itself with an intense and expressive nose, highlighting aromas of ripe red fruits such as strawberries, raspberries and redcurrants. These aromas are complemented by earthy and undergrowth notes, over a floral and herbal Mediterranean background, creating a rich and enveloping olfactory experience.
On the palate, the wine is voluminous, with polished, pleasing tannin that unfolds layer upon layer on the tongue. Red fruit flavours intertwine with a balsamic finish and a subtle hint of black pepper, offering an exquisite balance between intensity and elegance.
