The red 2022 Pas Curtei was cropped from a very low-yielding year (1,500 kilos per hectare in Merlot and Cabernet), but they didn't want to harvest earlier, so they decided to select the grapes in the vineyard. It was produced with a super-selection, and it came down to 60% Cariñena, 20% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, a different blend for a very classical red, vinified by variety. It's serious and a little closed. It fermented with moderate extraction with a classical vinification, but the clay and limestone soils give it tannicity, so the wine has a powerful personality, keeping the freshness, with contained ripeness and 14% alcohol. It matured in barrel (including malolactic) and had 12 months of élevage, with rackings every three months. 7,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2024.

Description
Pas Curtei, an oenological jewel of the Penedès region in Catalonia, Spain, is an authentic expression of quality viticulture and winemaking. This wine, made by Alemany i Corrió, represents a challenge to the traditional perception of DO Penedès wines.
Pas Curtei is a blend of carefully selected varieties, composed of 40% Merlot, 40% Carignan and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. These grapes are grown in vineyards between 15 and 70 years old, located in clay and limestone soils, which contributes to the complexity and richness of the wine. Production follows basic organic practices, avoiding chemical treatments and fertilisers, and maintaining low yields of around 4500 kg/ha.
Winemaking
The elaboration of Pas Curtei includes an alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, with a small pre-fermentative sulphite maceration using wild yeasts. Malolactic fermentation is carried out with wild bacteria in 228-litre French oak barrels.
The wine is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, 25% of which are new. This ageing process contributes significantly to the structure and complexity of the wine.
Taste
Pas Curtei is a wine reminiscent of Bordeaux styles, full of juicy black fruits and soft tannins. Its flavour profile is intense and appetising, with crisp fruit and a lingering finish. This wine is ideal with meats such as steak, game and poultry.
