Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
However good the regular San Leon might seem, the NV Manzanilla San Leon Reserva de la Familia is several notches above. Produced from Palomino grapes aged for an average of nine years under flor, it could be considered a Manzanilla Pasada, even though the label does not mention it. It is dominated by chalk, yeast and bread-dough aromas and even shows some roasted nut notes often found in older wines. The palate is sharp and full, intense and penetrating. This is one of the finest Manzanillas in existence today. Drink 2013-2017.

Description
Manzanilla San León Reserva de Familia is an oenological jewel from Bodegas Argüeso, founded in 1822 in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. This wine is made from Palomino grapes (100%), a characteristic variety of the region. The vineyards are located in the municipality of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, on albariza soils, rich in calcium carbonate, ideal for the ageing of manzanillas.
Winemaking
The winemaking process follows the traditional method of criaderas and soleras, in which the wine ages for more than 9 years under a veil of flor, a mantle of yeasts that protects the wine from oxygen and gives it its unique organoleptic characteristics. This method is fundamental for biological ageing and gives the wine its distinctive notes of yeast and fresh almonds. The wine is fortified to 15% alcohol before being put into the solera system. In addition, the prolonged ageing makes it a manzanilla pasada, although this is not always mentioned on the label.
Taste
Manzanilla San León Reserva de Familia stands out as a full-bodied and complex wine. On the nose, aromas of yeast, fresh almonds and a characteristic saline touch typical of the coastal region of Sanlúcar stand out. The palate is dry, sharp and very long on the finish, with an enveloping texture. This wine reflects the elegance and depth that only the best manzanillas can offer, and is ideal with seafood, cured meats and cured cheeses.
