The 2020 Colet Navazos Brut Nature Reserva is the green-label collaboration between Equipo Navazos and Colet from Penedès. It had a longer aging in bottle with the lees than the orange-label one, 42 months, and was topped up with bone-dry Manzanilla Pasada 'en rama' (unfiltered Manzanilla Sherry) at disgorgement time. It has a yeasty, nutty and spicy note, which is quite pungent; perhaps the effect of the Manzanilla is noticeable earlier this year. It has a seamless and solid palate with abundant small bubbles that make it textured. It finishes bone dry and with a salty twist. I found it lovely. 1,500 bottles produced. It was disgorged in September 2024.

Description
Colet Navazos Reserva Brut Nature is the fruit of an alliance between two worlds that rarely cross paths: the classicism of the Penedès and the sharp salinity of the Jerez region. Since 2006, Equipo Navazos - a leader in the recovery of unique fortified wines - has been collaborating with Sergi Colet, a meticulous oenologist from Pacs del Penedès, to create a sparkling wine that defies categories. The objective? To capture the elegance of a great Catalan Chardonnay and dress it with the marine subtlety of Manzanilla.
This wine is made from Chardonnay grapes grown in Colet's family vineyards, under the Mediterranean sun and on limestone soils, which provide freshness and structure. But its uniqueness begins when Navazos' intuition comes into play: to incorporate, in the expedition liqueur after disgorging, a minimal but significant dose of selected Manzanilla and Manzanilla Pasada from the south. It is a radical, unorthodox gesture, but executed with precision, which adds a whisper of flower and salt to the whole.
Winemaking
Colet Navazos Reserva Brut Nature is made using the traditional champenoise method: secondary fermentation in the bottle and prolonged ageing in rhyme. The base wine, 100% Chardonnay, ferments in stainless steel tanks, maintaining varietal purity and natural tension. After tirage, the bottles remain in the cellar for 41 months, developing a deep complexity, creamy texture and very fine bubbles.
As it is a Brut Nature, Colet Navazos Reserva Brut Nature does not receive any added sugar after disgorging. Instead, an expedition liqueur is added with a subtle touch of Manzanilla, which provides a unique aromatic profile: a delicate bridge between the minerality of the Penedès and the salinity of Sanlúcar.
Taste
In the glass Colet Navazos Reserva Brut Nature is full of subtle, constant bubbles. On the nose, it is a sober and complex wine: aromas of blossom yeast, dry bread, raw almonds, green lime and a salinity reminiscent of sea breeze. There is no artifice or excess: everything is precision, tension and minerality.
On the palate, there is a vibrant, sharp entry, with a vibrant acidity that carries citrus flavours, notes of dried fruits and a final echo of wet chalk and camomile. The salinity accompanies to the finish, leaving a dry, deep, slightly umami sensation. It is a sparkling wine for those in search of authenticity, purity and character. It is not indulgent, but it is unforgettable.
