Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Macvin does not usually carry the vintage, because even if the grapes are all from one single harvest—the 2013 in this case—the marc (spirit) is a blend of different years aged in oak before it's blended with the grape juice. So, it's not possible to tell apart different bottlings of the NV Macvin du Jura Blanc.... This is bottled with 17.5% alcohol after two or three years in barrel, which helps the alcohol to integrate with the grape juice. The longer the élevage in barrels, the better integrated I feel the components show. But there is always that grappa-like character in bottles like this. Some 4,000 bottles were produced from the 2013 juice.

Description
The story of Domaine Berthet-Bondet began in 1984, when Jean and Chantal Berthet-Bondet decided to bring an old abandoned vineyard in the heart of the Jura back to life. Their project not only sought to revive the winemaking tradition of Château Chalon, but also to reinterpret it with a modern sensibility. Today, his vines, on average 30 years old, are rooted in clay-limestone soils, where the work of the soil alternating with vegetation cover allows for a natural balance. From this landscape and philosophy comes Berthet Bondet Macvin du Jura, an ancestral fortified wine made from white grape must - mainly Chardonnay -and pomace spirit, in a 2/3 to 1/3 ratio, stopping fermentation and preserving sweetness and structure. A bold creation that expresses both terroir and local history.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested at optimum maturity. The fresh must is blended directly with the grape marc spirit, raising the alcohol content to 18% and stabilising the wine. There is no prolonged ageing in wood, in order to preserve the aromatic purity of the must and the harmonious integration of the alcohol. Berthet Bondet Macvin du Jura is bottled after a resting period and can be kept for up to 30 years, although its ideal drinking time is around 3 years.
Taste
On the nose, Berthet Bondet Macvin du Jura displays aromas of fresh grapes, sultanas, honey, bitter almonds and candied orange peel. The palate is unctuous and sweet, but with a freshness that avoids heaviness. Notes of roasted peach, ripe white fruits, a touch of spice and a subtle salinity that adds tension. The finish is long, with echoes of walnut, dried apricot and candied citrus. A wine of surprising balance: sweet yet vibrant, complex yet accessible.
