Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The single-vineyard red 2021 Vinha da Serra was produced with a field blend dominated by Tinta Amarela from a small plot that's over 100 years old at 600 meters above sea level in the Estrela Mountains, a west-facing slope. It's a wine of perfume and finesse, and it's herbal, spicy, floral and very elegant, with incredible purity. It has 11.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.6 and 6.02 grams of acidity, parameters of lightness and freshness. The palate is medium-bodied and the tannins very fine. It finishes with long, pure flavors and a salty sensation. It matured in a used 400-liter oak barrel for 18 months. Only 570 bottles were filled in August 2023.

Description
António Madeira Vinha da Serra is a complex and profound representation of what a wine can offer. This wine exudes finesse and harmony, being a true reflection of the terroir of its single vineyard. Its bouquet is an amalgam of granite, aromatic herbs, resins, fresh fruit and flowers, all in a blend of great finesse. On tasting, one can perceive notes of granite dust and ripe, crystalline fruit, an optimal balance due to the exposure to the west and the coolness of the altitude. The fine tannins evoke the texture of the vineyard soil, culminating in a very long and intense mineral finish.
Winemaking
The varieties that make up this wine are: Tinta Amarela (60%), Jaen (20%), Baga (9%), Tinta Pinheira (8%) and other old castes. The vinification was carried out with the utmost respect for the grapes and nature, seeking the pure expression of the Serra da Estrela terroir. No other products were used except sulphur. Alcoholic fermentation was carried out in open vats with traditional treading and began naturally, with the vine's own yeasts. After pressing, the wine was transferred directly to used French oak barrels, where it underwent malolactic fermentation until the following spring and where it aged for 18 months.
