Description
The story of Louis Jadot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Grande Montagne was born from the desire to accurately capture the identity of one of the highest and least explored parcels of Chassagne-Montrachet: the Premier Cru "Grande Montagne". Louis Jadot, emblematic house of Burgundy, opted for this east/southeast facing slope, neighbour of vineyards such as "Cailleret" or "La Romanée", where the combination of clay and limestone gives rise to a Chardonnay of tension, minerality and structured elegance. In this plot, located in the Côte des Blancs, the work is manual and meticulous, with the grapes harvested in small crates that protect each cluster. In an age dominated by efficiency, Jadot opts for the essentials: time, patience and loyalty to the terroir.
Winemaking
Once harvested, the grapes destined for the Louis Jadot Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Grande Montagne are gently pressed to preserve the finesse of the must. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, about a third of which are new, adding structure and complexity without overshadowing the expression of the terroir. This wine spends around 15 months on its fine lees, developing a creamy texture and aromatic depth. The ageing is carefully designed to bring out the mineral identity of the Chassagne Montrachet, balancing the oak with lively acidity and precise tension.
Taste
On the nose, Louis Jadot Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Grande Montagne reveals notes of ripe pear, baked apple, white flowers and a subtle veil of butter and vanilla, melding with hints of smoke and wet stone. There is something athletic about its profile: medium-bodied, mouth-filling, but with a tension that drives it forward. The acidity is crisp, the fruit restrained, and the salinity marks the passage. On the palate there are echoes of candied lemon, toasted brioche and raw almond. The finish is long, dry, with mineral persistence, leaving a sensation of purity and precision. A Altura Burgundy white, ideal for dishes with character: seafood, elaborate vegetable cuisine or poultry in creamy sauces. Grande Montagne is a vertical interpretation, sculpted in limestone, of Chardonnay de Chassagne.
