Description
To talk about Dido La Solució Rosa is to talk about a rosé that defies expectations. It is not the typical light, ephemeral wine that can be enjoyed on a summer afternoon without much significance. It is a wine with soul, with structure, with an evolution in the bottle that makes it worth keeping. A rosé that could fool anyone with its character, somewhere between a serious white and a delicate red.
It is made by Venus La Universal, the project of Sara Pérez and René Barbier Jr, two names that resonate strongly in the Montsant DO. In their winery, the wine is made with an artisanal philosophy, seeking the pure expression of the terroir and a balance that can only be achieved with time and patience.
Dido La Solució Rosa is an unusual blend: 50% Garnacha Tinta, 20% Macabeo, 15% Tempranillo, 10% Cariñena and a touch of Garnacha Blanca and Garnacha Gris. Each variety contributes something special: the Garnacha Tinta adds volume, the Macabeo freshness, the Tempranillo structure and the Cariñena that spark of acidity that gives it tension and life.
The vineyards are planted on degraded granite soils, a type of soil that leaves its mark on the wine with subtle but unmistakable mineral notes. The vines, some of them very old, drink from these deep-rooted soils, and this translates into a wine with personality and depth.
Winemaking
The elaboration of Dido La Solució Rosa follows a process as peculiar as its composition. All the grapes are pressed together, which is unusual, allowing the flavours to integrate from the beginning. Fermentation is then extended for six months in old barrels over 10 years old, which adds complexity without masking the fruit. The ageing continues for another 7-8 months in the same barrels, but the journey does not end there: the wine rests for a further 10 months in old foudres and 30% in clay jugs. The result is a rosé wine unlike any other.
Taste
In the mouth, Dido La Solució Rosa plays with the senses. It is neither immediate nor easy to pigeonhole. On the palate, its freshness dazzles, with notes of citrus and subtle red fruit. As you let it breathe, deeper layers appear: a touch of orange peel, some white fruit and a slightly smoky background that gives it mystery.
It is a wine that invites you to explore. If you drink it chilled, its crisp, sharp side comes to the fore; if you let it open in the glass, its character changes, showing a broader texture and a finish that lengthens with saline and spicy notes.
This is not a rosé to drink without thinking. It is a rosé to feel, discover and, above all, enjoy.
