Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
One of the best wines ever produced at this address, the 2022 Grand Village reveals a dense, bright and complex bouquet of cassis, mulberries, flowers and sweet berries, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and round palate with a seamless texture framed by velvety tannins, concluding with a penetrating, ethereal finish. This blend of blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc benefits from the sort of careful winemaking usually reserved for cru classé wines.

Description
It was born from the will of a family that has embraced the terroir since the 17th century: it was Jacques Verdery who sowed the seed of this lineage in 1650, when he founded the Château Grand Village vineyard in Mouillac, on the other side of Fronsac. The idea of making this wine came from the desire to translate that heritage into a humble but honest expression, almost "a petit château in the service of a great spirit": to honour the chalky clay soil, to cherish every bud, and to work with a winemaking philosophy as refined as that of its legendary neighbour, Château Lafleur.
At the turn of the millennium, the Guinaudeau family took the bold decision to cultivate and produce with a rigorous approach, without artifice, but with the precision of a grand cru. The result is a wine that is authentic, harmonious, enjoyable when young, patiently revealing a mineral and tannic nerve that discreetly recalls the spirit of Lafleur.
Château Grand Village Rouge is 79% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc. The region lies on clay and limestone soils, with vineyards located on plateaus and gentle slopes. The Bordeaux climate is fresh, and tradition breathes in every cluster.
Winemaking
The Château Grand Village Rouge grapes are harvested by hand, respecting each cluster. After going through a sorting table, the grapes are fermented using the traditional method, with gentle pumping over to extract structure without harshness. The wine matures in French oak barrels, with about 30% new wood, for about 15 to 20 months.
This balanced use of oak in Château Grand Village Rouge enhances the black fruit notes without masking them, providing a spicy nerve and an anointed texture that prepares the wine for a much more than reasonable bottle life.
Taste
On serving, Château Grand Village Rouge has a dark garnet colour. On the nose, there is a subtle elegance: black cherry, cassis, floral notes rising like violet vapours, with a touch of graphite giving context to the intensity.
On the palate, Château Grand Village Rouge displays surprising freshness: medium to full-bodied, with concentrated fruit and spice emerging under layers of bitter cocoa and liquorice. The texture is silky, with fine tannins that pierce the palate with precision. A long, structured finish, impressive in control and energy.
This Bordeaux wine is notloud but refined, uncompromising, built on family heritage and terroir. Ideal for those who value wines where the land speaks with a pure and structured voice.
