Description
When Mariona Vendrell and Albert Canela founded Succés Vinícola in 2011, they were barely out of oenology school, but they already had a clear conviction: to restore Trepat, a light and subtle red grape typical of Conca de Barberà, to its rightful place among the great varieties of the Mediterranean. No pretensions, no make-up, just intuition, respect for the vineyard and a healthy dose of rebelliousness.
Succés Vinícola Patxanga was born precisely from this uninhibited and vitalist philosophy. Its name says it all: joy, celebration, partying with friends. But don't let the festive tone fool you. Behind it lies an admirable seriousness: old Trepat vines planted in chalky soils at an altitude of over 400 metres, in the heart of the Conca, where the thermal contrast between day and night preserves a vibrant freshness. In this land, windblown and tempered by the Mediterranean climate, the Trepat finds its purest and lightest expression, with a profile that is always floral, delicate and never heavy.
Mariona and Albert have refused to follow the formulas dictated by the market. When everyone was looking for dense, full-bodied reds, they opted for ethereal, transparent wines. Some people told them that it would never sell. But they did not give in. And today, their Succés Vinícola Patxanga is served in natural wine bars from Tokyo to Paris, as a symbol of freshness and Catalan authenticity.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, like everything else at Succés, with rigorous selection in the vineyard. The Trepat grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts, without intervention, in stainless steel tanks. Maceration is brief, gentle, almost timid, in order to extract only the essential. No forced extraction or attempts to "colour" the Trepat: here we celebrate its subtle, floral character. There is no oak ageing, because the wine does not need it. Just a brief rest on fine lees that gives it some texture without erasing its luminous freshness. Unclarified, unfilteredand with just a touch of sulphur before bottling.
Taste
Succés Vinícola Patxanga is a fresh caress on the palate. A light, juicy wine that enters with the ease of a shared laugh on a summer terrace. Aromas of fresh raspberry, rose petals and a subtle hint of white pepper rise up clearly. It is not a wine that shouts; rather it whispers, it invites you to come closer. On the palate, a clean, sparkling acidity sets the pace, while the red fruits dance with an airy, almost saline minerality. The texture is very fine, with a dry finish reminiscent of an infusion of mountain herbs.
A wine that does not seek to impress with muscle, but with natural elegance. Ideal to accompany mild cured meats, Asian cuisine or simply a good time with friends. Succés Vinícola Patxanga is bottled joy, but also a declaration of principles: light can also be deep.
