Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2020 Pintia is from a powerful year of concentration, so they were very careful with the harvest date, did a softer vinification trying to extract less and included amphorae and less toast in the élevage. It's opulent and juicy but gentle. The wine reached 15.5% alcohol and has a pH of 3.9 with 4.4 grams of acidity. It fermented in stainless steel and oak vats with indigenous yeasts. It was a very warm and dry vintage in Toro, with a heat wave before the harvest, so they had to rush to pick the grapes; and still the wine is richer and more powerful, even though the amphorae helped them contain the sensation of ripeness in the wine. It has a heady and ripe profile, very aromatic and showy, with notes of very ripe berries, prunes and decayed violets with a faint volatile twist. It matured 70% in new barrels, 10% in used barrels, 10% in stainless steel and 5% in clay pots. It's full bodied and lush, with abundant, slightly dusty tannins. It was a ripe and powerful vintage for Pintia, but it evolved nicely in the glass, showing less of its ripe side with time, which to me is a good sign. Some 14,304 half bottles, 209,009 bottles, 6,645 magnums and some larger formats were produced. It was bottled in August 2022.

Description
To speak of Pintia is to speak of power and elegance in equal parts. It is not just another Toro wine; it is the expression of a rugged land, with cold winters and scorching summers, tamed with the art and patience of the legendary Vega Sicilia family. Since they acquired these vineyards in the 1990s, they have worked with care to tame the strength of the Tinta de Toro, achieving a spectacular balance between structure and freshness.
The Pintia vineyards are located on the outskirts of San Román de Hornija, on gentle slopes that reach up to 700 metres above sea level. The soil is a mosaic of pebbles, sands and red clays, a perfect combination for the vines to suffer just enough and concentrate the best of themselves in each cluster. The older vines, about 40 years old, add depth and complexity, while the younger ones refresh the whole.
Winemaking
The winemaking process in the cellar follows an almost artisanal process. After the grapes are harvested by hand, they are placed in a cold room to maintain their freshness. Then, a controlled fermentation is carried out in large wooden and stainless steel vats with indigenous yeasts, extracting the best of the fruit without excesses. The ageing, 12 months in new barrels (70% French and 30% American), adds structure and elegance without overshadowing its character.
Taste
From the first sip, Pintia grabs you. It has a deep red colour, almost hypnotic. On the nose, it is a festival of ripe black fruits, with a hint of prunes, sweet spices and a slight mineral touch. On the palate, it is pure intensity: firm but silky tannins, an acidity that balances its power and a long finish that leaves an echo of bitter chocolate and liquorice.
It is a wine to be enjoyed unhurriedly. Perhaps with a good roast, a board of cured cheeses or simply with a conversation worth having. Pintia is a tamed Toro, but with its bravura intact.
