Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
I tasted the 2023 Pingus as the final blend that was about to be bottled, a little earlier this year when Peter Sisseck decided to have a shorter élevage. It's a vintage of finesse and elegance, perhaps a little less concentrated, and it's textured and super long, with very fine tannins that give it a chalky texture. It has contained ripeness, with around 14% alcohol. The quality of the tannins is amazing—they are super elegant. It does not have the power of the 2022, but it has the finesse; and in the long run, the wine should develop very nicely in bottle. This could be like the 1996 and the 2022 like the 1995?? It's not quite as fresh as the more Atlantic years but has the finesse. Only a handful of vineyards are able to do this in a year like 2023. There is no sign of heat or over-ripeness. 7,200 bottles produced. It should be bottled in May 2025.

Description
Pingus is a red wine of great international prestige, made in Ribera del Duero by Peter Sisseck at the Dominio de Pingus winery. This wine has achieved recognition due to its exceptional quality, being frequently valued with the highest scores by critics such as Robert Parker and James Suckling. It is made from 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), an emblematic variety of the region.
The vineyards, located in La Horra, have old vines planted in 1929, spread over 4 hectares and are certified organic and biodynamic. These vines grow in different soils: gravel and sand on clay and lime in Barroso, and clay soils in San Cristóbal, at an altitude of between 800 and 837 metres. The climate is continental, with cold winters and hot summers, which favours the production of highly concentrated grapes.
Winemaking
Pingus is fermented with 30% whole clusters and indigenous yeasts in large vats, followed by malolactic fermentation in barrels. Ageing takes place in 225-litre oak barrels, and bottling is carried out after a meticulous daily tasting process to guarantee maximum quality.
Taste
Pingus stands out for its aromatic profile and its great structure. On the nose, it presents floral aromas such as violet, accompanied by notes of black fruits such as plum and cherry, as well as subtle spices. On the palate, it is an elegant and complex wine, with a silky texture and very fine tannins. The finish is long and lingering, with a chalky freshness that gives it great balance. It is recommended for consumption after prolonged ageing in bottle, reaching its maximum expression several years after bottling.
