Description
In the wild heart of the Baix Penedès, between sunny hills and Mediterranean breezes that patiently stir the leaves of old forgotten vines, Partida Creus was born. Not as an ordinary winery, but as a rural manifesto. Antonella and Massimo, industrial architects turned radical winegrowers, left Turin in the early 2000s in search of a new way of life. They found it in the recovery of very old, almost extinct vineyards, treated for decades as little more than vegetable rubble. Where others saw abandonment, they saw character.
Their Partida Creus Xarel.lo is not just another label, but a declaration of intent. It comes from plots of land worked with extreme organic farming, with minimal intervention, seeking to respect the mineral and almost saline identity of shallow, sun-damaged calcareous soils. The Mediterranean climate, with its intense sunshine and cool nights, marks a slow but constant ripening rhythm, allowing a pure and uncompromising expression of this traditional Catalan variety.
Winemaking
The vinification of Partida Creus Xarel.lo avoids all artifice. The grapes, harvested by hand, are pressed directly, without destemming, in a gentle pneumatic press, extracting the essential without damaging the fruit. The must is naturally de-stemmed, letting gravity decide what is worthwhile. Fermentation starts spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks at moderate temperatures.
For three months, the wine rests on its fine lees in stainless steel, gaining texture, density, and an internal tension that will be the common thread of its character on the palate. There is no oak ageing, because purity is Mandó. The wine is bottled without filtering or fining, in its rawest and most honest form.
Taste
Partida Creus Xarel.lo does not seek to please; it seeks to awaken. On the nose, it presents itself with a slight reductive character at first, a whisper of damp cellar or hot stone after rain, which soon gives way to an austere choreography of white aromas: lemon zest, green almond, fennel and a hint of dried bay leaf. There are no exuberant fruits here; everything is sober, dry, almost monastic.
On the palate, the entry is direct, without anaesthetic: a saline stream runs through the palate, carrying with it notes of white grapefruit, apple skin and an almost cutting minerality. There is volume, yes, but restrained, without fat or concessions. The acidity is sharp, structured, clean, like the line of a drawing without shadows. The finish is persistent, dry, with echoes of chalk, wild herbs and a slight noble bitterness reminiscent of lemon peel or freshly split almonds.
This is not a wine for everyone. It is a Xarel.lo that challenges, that imposes its rhythm. Ideal for those looking for tension, truth and an unadorned mouthfeel. Perfect with raw seafood, grilled fish or fennel dishes, but above all, perfect to drink slowly, in silence, letting the earth speak.
