Els Escurçons 2013

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
All the 2013s showed some volatile/acetaldehyde character, which apparently was also a characteristic of 1999 and later was absorbed by the wine. It's also there in the 2013 Els Escurçons, which shares a common characteristic that I found in other 2013s here. It starts with that spirity touch, and then turns more into the red fruit and flower spectrum of aromas. There is very good freshness, an elegant palate with very fine tannins and a silkiness you don't often find in Priorat. There was a fire in this high altitude vineyard in 2015, and they were telling me that during fermentation you could really feel a smoky note in the wine, so I'm not surprised to find the aromas of the wild plants in the wine here, too. This vineyard, which is relatively young, should produce better and better wines as it matures. The nose shows riper and the palate reflects the freshness provided by high altitude. There are 1,500 bottles produced.
