History
The history of this winery, which belongs to the Eguren family, began in 1985, when Guillermo Eguren started to cultivate the hairy Tempranillo variety on the La Canoca plot.
Over time, the 18-hectare plantation became a key element in the recovery of this autochthonous grape variety, at risk of disappearing at that time, and the result was more than favourable: wines that are ideal for ageing in barrels, which develop fruity aromas and a smooth flavour, with well-marked tannins.
Location and vineyard
The winery is located in the town of Páganos, in the province of Laguardia, in the middle of a privileged microclimate, with an Atlantic climate.
The Señorío de San Vicente vineyards are characterised by being relatively young and at the peak of their production. Specifically, the hairy Tempranillo grape was planted in 1985 by Guillermo Eguren, who at that time was looking to develop vines that were ideal for making wines for ageing.
As for the soil of the vineyard, it is characterised by its calcareous and clayey composition, ideal for optimum grape development. In addition, both the altitude of the land and the phenotypic composition of the grapes make a perfect combination to develop red wines of the highest quality.
The team and the inspiration behind the winery
The Eguren brothers are in charge of developing this winemaking project. Both come from a lineage of men dedicated to the production and cultivation of vines: Amancio, Vitorio and Guillermo Eguren himself, from whom Marcos and Miguel would learn the trade.
After the success achieved with other family wineries, such as Sierra Cantabria, the Eguren family decided, at the beginning of the 70's, to bet on a project capable of differentiating them from the rest of the winegrowers. This is how the initiative to make crianza wines with a grape variety traditionally associated with young Riojanos was born.
The best thing is that the wait has been worth it. The 2015 vintage of their San Vicente wine alone was awarded 94 points by oenologist Robert Parker, a marvellous result!

Each of the wines produced at the Señorío de San Vicente winery is characterised by two important aspects: firstly, it has been produced according to the natural biorhythm of the vineyard, as well as following a meticulous vinification and ageing process.
Secondly, but no less important, the reds produced have developed strong and complex flavours, which remain on the palate for longer. In addition, their enveloping nuances stand out, with structured tannins and balsamic accents, which will captivate even the most discerning connoisseurs.
