The 2021 Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese is very clear, bright and elegant on the saline and beautifully balanced nose that delivers bright and quite intense fruit aromas intermingled with weathered slate and also citrus aromas. On the palate, this is a round and intense, mouth-filling and lush, almost creamy-textured Himmelreich with a long, complex and saline finish. It needs some time, though. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2023.

Winemaking

In particularly challenging vintages due to extreme weather conditions, production is limited, but of high quality. The winery performs green pruning during the summer to relieve stress on the vines, thus ensuring the health and quality of the remaining grapes. This wine is a direct result of these precise and attentive viticultural practices.

Taste

Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese stands out for its finesse, precision and elegance. On tasting, one discovers an inviting and seductive bouquet, with notes of lemon, mandarin, candied ginger and tea, complemented by nuances of smoke and stone. Despite its initially reserved aromatic profile, the wine opens up beautifully, revealing impressive clarity and precision.
On the palate, it is characterised by crystalline acidity and electric minerality. Sweet, ripe, juicy fruit flavours intertwine with herbal and spicy notes and a hint of zesty citrus. The texture is fine and silky, adding complexity and depth to the wine.
