The exuberant 2021 El Regalo is ripe, showy and generously oaked, but somehow it feels in better balance than the Reserva from 2020 I tasted next to it. It's modern, ripe and powerful, quite aromatic and showy. It's mostly Tempranillo with some white grapes and has 14.85% alcohol. It had an élevage of 16 months in barriques and 5,000-liter oak vats. 14,272 bottles and some larger formats produced. It was bottled in July 2023.

Description
El Regalo is the name of a plot of land located in the heart of Villabuena de Álava (Rioja Alavesa). Who planted it 85 years ago decided to offer it as a wedding gift to his future wife. Since then it has been known as 'the gift'.
Bodega Izadi has been making Izadi Expresión wine since 1998, bottling the production of each harvest from this vineyard. In 2004, it was decided to honor the wine produced by these grapes with the name El Regalo. This is the origin of the name of this red wine.

Winemaking
The vineyard is located 520 meters above sea level and has a yield that does not exceed 4,450 kilos per hectare, due to its soil type and shallow depth, which causes a high water deficit. At present, El Regalo occupies 4 hectares.
In addition, it is currently cultivated under the parameters of organic viticulture, and the Tempranillo grapes are harvested by hand in boxes of 15 kilos.
Aging lasts 20 months in new oak barrels and French oak vats from the coopers Darnajou, Taransaud, François Frères and Radoux.
