The 2021 Trittenheimer Apotheke Riesling Spätlese is still a bit reductive after the bottling in mid-June but shows deep, intense and mineral fruit behind the haze that is intermingled with iodine salt and butter-roasted risotto aromas. Lush and sweet but also savory and saline on the palate, this is round and relatively generous and substantial Spätlese with ripe and concentrated fruit and fine mineral grip on the finish. It is still very young and somewhat masked but promising. 8% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in August 2022.

Ansgar Clüsserath Trittenheimer Apotheke Riesling Spätlese is a wine that comes from the Mosel region, Germany. This wine is made exclusively with the Riesling grape variety, representing 100% of its composition.
Winemaking
The uniqueness of the location of the Trittenheimer Apotheke estate is largely due to the slate and rock in the subsoil, combined with a relatively sheltered south-west orientation and an extremely long warm period during the day. These conditions, together with vines up to 80 years old with deep roots in the rock, result in small grapes with concentrated aromatics. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in traditional wooden barrels from the Mosel forests (Fuderfass) and then the wine rests on its lees until May.
Taste
A sweet, refreshing wine, which expresses itself vibrant and mineral in pure Mosel Spätlese style. On the palate, notes of lemon and bergamot can be appreciated, offering a long, electric finish. It also stands out for its combination of sweetness and acidity, with a flavour profile dominated by ripe fruit, without losing a strong acidity and minerality as a counterpoint to the sweetness of the fruit. The wine is smooth and juicy on the palate, leaving a fresh sensation of candied citrus peel on the long, precise finish.
