Almaviva 2022

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Almaviva leads with a brooding, woody nose with savory, roasted pepper aromas and pleasing top notes of lavender and dried herbs. The palate is dense, luscious and staining, with considerable concentration and opulence. The finish continues this lush, layered opulence, concluding with supple, firm, unyielding tannins, welcomely braced with fresh acidity and herbal, methol-tinged flourishes. Despite its immediate richness, this is quite wound up, and it will take a few years to integrate its formidable tannins further. But it should be a joy to watch develop over the coming decade and beyond. It's a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Carménère, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot aged for 20 months in 70% new French oak.

Description
Almaviva, a wine that represents the perfect fusion of Chilean and French winemaking traditions. Made mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon, which makes up 75% of the blend, followed by Carménère with 19% and Cabernet Franc with 6%. This wine is the result of the meeting of two wine cultures: Chile, which brings its land, climate and vineyards, and France, which brings its know-how and traditions. This combination has resulted in a wine of exceptional elegance and complexity.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested in small 20 kg crates and selected by hand. After destemming, the grapes are transferred by gravity to the fermentation tanks. Here, the must is cooled and then alcoholic fermentation and skin maceration take place. The wine is then racked into new French oak barrels, where it remains for approximately 18 months. After this period, the wine is clarified with egg white and finally bottled. The bottles are left to settle for several months before being released onto the market.
Taste
Almaviva presents floral aromas, with notes of smoky tobacco, mulch, dried rose petals and ripe plum evolving towards black truffle and leather. All this aromatic ensemble is wrapped in nuances of candied figs and laurel leaves. On the palate, the attack is silky and balanced, fresh, with soft tannins. Flavours of dried flowers, pine bark and undergrowth can be perceived, resulting in a harmonious wine with a long persistence and a smooth finish.
