Description
Strohmeier Lys-Rød is an oenological jewel distinguished by its character and authenticity. Its name, which means "light red" in Danish, is a nod to the special relationship that Franz, the wine's creator, has with his Danish importer and customers. Originally, this wine was called Schilcher, an established term for a Blauer Wildbacher rosé typical of the region. However, due to its uniqueness and not conforming to traditional expectations, the Strohmeiers opted for a name change, leaving comparisons behind and embracing their unique identity.
The vineyard from which this wine originates is Lesteina parcel close to Franz's winery, characterised by gneiss and a high content of iron and silica. It was planted in the 1980s by the winemaker's father and has been minimally pruned. The only grape variety used in this wine is Blauer Wildbacher.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and macerated with their skins for 4 hours. Fermentation is spontaneous, carried out with native yeasts in used wooden barrels. Three months later, the wine is bottled without fining, filtering or adding sulphur, respecting its essence as much as possible.
Taste
Strohmeier Lys-Rød is as fruity a rosé as a wine can be. It stands out for its notes of red berries, peppery spices and wonderful acidity. It is as refreshing an experience as walking with Franz through this beautiful vineyard on a cold winter morning. On the nose, aromas of grapefruit, blueberry and strawberry are perceived, making it extremely fruity and pleasant. On the palate, some minor bubbles are noticeable, but what really stands out is the clarity of the fresh fruit. Its complexity makes this wine something special, definitely worth a try, though it is certainly a singular choice.
