Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Condado de Tea white from Rías Baixas 2016 Pousada is a classical blend of Albariño and 25% Treixadura from a relatively cool year and a zone that is close to Ribeiro. It was not an easy year, and the grapes achieved less ripeness. The full clusters of both varieties were pressed together, the juice fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and 2,000 out of 3,400 liters aged in a 2,000-liter foudre for one year, while the rest was kept in stainless steel. It's balsamic and has notes of freshly cut grass and yellow plums, with volume provided by the aging in neutral oak (the foudre is about five years old). They produce this as a vin de garde, and I believe they are gong to age in bottle. Dorado likes Albariño/Alvarinhos with volume and also likes this blend, and the wines are built for the long haul. The palate is very tasty and serious, and it's dry, with the austerity of the sandy granite soils. This is a big improvement over the initial 2015. 4,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2018.
