Description
El Marciano is a young red wine that has been crafted exclusively from the Garnacha Tinta grape variety by the Bodega Alfredo Maestro winery in Peñafiel in Valladolid, under the Castilla y León appellation.
The grapes used for this wine come from old vineyards with an average age of 70 years, located in the Sierra de Gredos in Ávila, at an altitude of 1,150 metres above sea level.
The vineyards are south-facing and the soil is composed of granitic rock and sand on the surface.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, 80% of the grapes are destemmed and the rest is crushed. The fermentation process is carried out in 1,500 litre stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts and daily pumping over.
Maceration lasts about 23 days. Afterwards, a racking is carried out prior to malolactic fermentation.
The wine is clarified naturally, taking advantage of the low winter temperatures in the area. The Marciano is finally racked to settle the residual impurities and to decant.
The wine is aged for 4 months in stainless steel tanks.
Taste
El Marciano is a young red wine with very marked fruity aromas and mineral and spicy notes. In the mouth it is full-flavoured, fruity, juicy and characterised by its texture, good balance and good acidity.
